Glas Tulaichean Race Results

It was wonderful to see a record field of 61 competitors turn out for Saturday’s Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race despite the rather dreich conditions on the hill.  The race, which climbs 670m in a little over 7km to finish at the summit of the ‘Munro’ Glas Tulaichean, was won by last year’s Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medal winner Robbie Simpson in a rapid time of 34:15.  The first female home was Virginie Barrand of Metro Aberdeen in 46:17. Well done both! Congratulations also to Billy Gibson & Catherine Matthews who each took 1st V40 place for a Hawks veteran double.  Several other Hawks competed, with Ciaron Collins (bagging his first ever Munro in style), Munro Stewart, Romain Borgeal, Philip Levack, Phil Forte, Dominika Kwasna & Alan Kennedy all putting in great performances.  Full results via the link below.

There was lots of positive feedback from all participants, so huge thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, including Dave & Lyn Hanlon, Beth & Angie Collins, Alan Vigrow, Catherine & Grace Matthews & Charlie Love. Roll on next year!

Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race 2019 – Help Wanted!

The Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race will take place on Saturday 25th of May with a 2pm start.  This is a club organised race and we still require help with this event including registration, timekeeping and assistance with post race catering.  Can anyone able to help please get in touch with Steve Matthews on 01382 807181 or at s.p.matthews@dundee.ac.uk

The race is a well-established fixture on the Scottish hill running calendar & is a great introduction to hill running involving a straightforward ascent of the ‘Munro’ Glas Tulaichean at Spittal of Glenshee.  Expect your 10km time plus 20-30%.  Entry is still only £5 on the day from 12 noon.  Come along & unleash your inner hill runner!

Any contributions to the post-race tea will also be gratefully received!

Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race Report

Sunshine & a light chasing breeze brought a good turnout of 42 runners to Dalmunzie Estate for this year’s Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race.  Despite the warm conditions Dundee Hawkhill’s Kristian Jones’ winning time shaved 22s from the 21 year old course record to cover the 670m ascent in a superb 33m28s.  Ally Beaven of Highland Hill Runners & Westies’ Brian Bonnyman (also 1st V40) followed in 2nd & 3rd places.  In the womens’ race, Chantel Clark of Dundee & Angus Cani-Cross (minus dog on this occasion!) was first lady to the top in 50m41s, with Ella Peters (Glasgow Caledonian University) 2nd & Hilary Ritchie (Fife AC, also 1st V50) 3rd.  Congratulations to all the runners.  It was a spectacular day to be out on the hills & everyone seemed to come back down with a smile on their face.

Many thanks to Dalmunzie Estate for continuing to support this terrific race so well, and also to our small army of marshals & catering helpers for the smashing post race tea (Irene Cromar, Jackie Kennedy, Charlie Love, Catherine & Grace Matthews, Katherine Lawlor & Ruth Levack).  Particular thanks also to previous race director Dave Hanlon for invaluable advice & help on the day.

See you all next year!
