East District Cross Country Relays

Sunday saw the start of the cross country season and a trip down to Peebles on a beautiful mostly sunny day for the East District Relays. The Hawks had 3 junior male teams, 3 junior female teams and a veteran male team competing. It was an eventful trip ( 2 and a half hour delay at Forth Road bridge on the way home)……so it was a 2 hr trip to get there and about 4 and a half to get back!!

Well done to the men’s team comprising Gordon Barrie, Craig Ross, Des Crow and Matt Strachan who each ran a 4km leg and finished as 2nd veterans.

The juniors also had a good day. Each team is made up of an u13, u15 and an u17 who each run a leg of 2.5km. The boys A team ( Blair Scott, Davey Begg and James Donald) finished in 9th, the B team (Aidan Simpson, Jamie Simpson and Andrew Merry) in 10th with the C runners (Ryan Donald and Callum Letham) also put in good performances but didn’t have a leg 3 runner.

All of the boys did brilliantly but stand out performers were in u13s Aidan Simpson who put in a storming run to clock 9min 53 secs (8th quickest u13), James Donald who ran an 8:33 in the u17s to record the 3rd fastest in his age group and Andrew Merry again in u17s 8:43 for 6th quickest.

The girls teams also had a good day with many of them running cross country for the first time and also running the age group above them. The B team came 18th (Jodie Taylor, Martha Gallagher, Izzy Remers). The A team came 19th (Carmen Thomson, Kirsty Irving u13 running u15 leg, and Sophie Kidd u15 running u17 leg). The C team came 21st ( Amy Sturrock, Steffie Kidd u13 running u15 leg, Amy Mollison)

Well done girls..great effort. Stand out performances with the quickest Hawks laps for the girls were u13 Carmen Thomson 12:41, u15 Sophie Kidd 12:42 and u17 Izzy Remers 12:29.

Looking forward to the next one. Results/ times for all the runners will be updated onto the results page.
