Laura Muir convincingly won the under 20 women’s National Cross Country Title at Saturday’s Championships. Laura made a decisive move on the final major climb to move away from Beth Potter and win by a sizeable margin. It’s great to see a Hawk as National Champion. Laura is moving from strength to strength and clearly relishing the sporting opportunities university life offers.
The Junior Squad had good representation with many facing the championships for the first time. Jamie Crowe put in a solid performance (6th) in the under 17 men. Euan Rose gained a well earned 10th in the under 15 boys supported by Alisdair Merry (85th) and Euan Strachan (96th). However, Connor Bertie took the plaudits having lost his shoe in the mud only to pick it up, throw it to his dad before charging in his sock for the finish line. Under 15 girls saw Eilidh Reynolds finished 48th and Katie Patullo 67th. In the Under 13 boys race Andrew Merry 19th, Callum Letham 75th and Jack Anderson finished 76th. Our Under 13 girls team did very well gaining 9th team overall: Maddie Qwen 16th, Danielle MacDermid 56th, Molly Hughes 83th and Shaney (sprinter) McCabe 100th.
The Seniors also managed a team this year. Neil Gunstone ran a very commendable 62nd place. Gordon Barrie 131st , Matt Strachan 151st and Craig Love 181st. Craig Bertie and Nigel Reynolds gave a majestic display of controlled cross country running towards the rear of the field.
