Scottish XC Relay Championships

There was a good turnout for the Hawks at the National Relays on Saturday in Cumbernauld. It was an extremely windy, rainy and sometimes sunny day with lots of mud to be found making conditions tough for the athletes.

The Hawks had 3 junior boys teams, 3 junior girls teams, a v50 team and another incomplete senior team racing.

Each junior team is made up if an u13, an u15 and an u17 running 2.5km in that order. In total 93 junior boys teams raced. Our A team (Aidan Simpson, Davey Begg, James Donald) placed 28th, our B team (Blair Scott, Jack Anderson, Andrew Merry) were 32nd and our C team (Ryan Donald, Callum McCormack, Matthew Tonner) finished 42nd. Brilliant that all three teams finished in the top half, especially considering most of the boys running are in the first year of their respective age groups. Quickest u13 leg for the Hawks was Aidan Simpson (11:10) who was 28th in his age group out of 122 runners. Davey Begg was fastest for the u15s (10:49) finishing 54th from 109 boys in his leg and for the U17s James Donald was 26th in his age group (9:44).

For the girls our B team finished 52nd (Emily Paul, Danielle MacDermid, Hannah George), our A team 56th (Carmen Thomson, Shania King, Maddie Owen) and our C team (Kirsty Irving, Emily Harrower, Isabel Remers) 74th. Well done girls some good performances. Quickest u13 leg was Emily Paul (13:02) and 57th out of 106 starters in her age group. In the u15 leg Danielle MacDermid was 53rd (13:06) and Maddie Owen who is an u15 but was running an u17 leg was 28th (12:09).

Well done also to our V50 team who each ran 4km and ran to 11th place. (Matt Strachan, Nigel Reynolds, Craig Ross). The quickest leg for the vets was Matt Strachan on leg 1 running 16:03. Craig was 7th in leg 1.

Kenny Letham and Bruce Scott each ran leg for an incomplete senior team with Bruce running the quickest leg (15:44) making him 3rd over 40 in his leg.

Everyone looked like they had a good day…despite the weather!!

Full results are now on the Scottish Athletics website and I will post a summary of all the Hawks times to the results page ASAP.
