A busy weekend for Hawks track and field athletes started on Friday night with the BMC distance races held at Hutchison’s Grammar, Glasgow. U15 Ryan Donald ran a 5:05.74 1500m just missing his pb and brother James set an inaugural Club U17 5000m record of 16:08.81. Gordon Barrie completed the Hawks representation setting a new Masters M40 club record in the 1500m of 4:15.09.
Glasgow was again the location on Sunday for the final match of the Youth Development U17/20 League. This time it was at Scotstoun and 13 Hawks represented Kingdom Athletic. All the athletes faced difficult conditions with strong winds and heavy rain affecting performances throughout the day. Despite the conditions there were personal bests for Shania King in the 3000m in 13:07.73 and 1500m steeplechase in 6:16.5; Katie Anderson with a 59.87 400m and Declan Gall throwing the hammer 24.07m (not bad for a hurdler!).
The Hawks athletes contributed 6 ‘A string’ first places with Michael Tarnawsky winning the U17 200m in 23.93, Maria Akunna the 300m in 42.59, James Donald the 1500m steeplechase 4:57.09 and Declan Gall the 400m Hurdles in 59.00. U20 Katie Patullo had a fine double winning the 400m Hurdles in 66.57 and then the 100m Hurdles in 15.47.
Kingdom finished 3rd on the day and have finished the league in 4th place ensuring they stay in the Premier League next season.
