Following discussions over the weekend between DHH trustees and coaches regarding the current uncertainty over Covid-19 we have taken the decision for the health and welfare of athletes, coaches and our other volunteers, to suspend all training for the next 3 weeks initially. Therefore there is no training from today until week beginning 6th April.
This is in line with the recent guidance from Scottish Athletics: https://www.scottishathletics.org.uk/coronovirus-advice-on-events-and-club-training/
We will continue to monitor the situation closely, provide relevant information and advice of date when training will resume.
Many thanks for your on going support and cooperation with this.
DHH Trustees and Coaches.
Great news. DHH has just had confirmation that following the EGM in May that the clubs application for charity status has been granted by OSCR, which is fantastic. This means the club will be adopting a new constitution and as part of this membership renewals will not be requested until the start of April. An email regarding this has been sent out to membership. Further details about club SCIO and changes to membership structure and fees will be made available once agreed by club trustees.
Some of the senior endurance athletes managed to fit in a bit of late season sunshine with a trip to take part in the Valencia Marathon and 10k races this weekend. Weather was perfect over the weekend with temperatures at a pleasant 23 degrees in the run up to the race. With an early start of 8:30 it was cool to begin with but temperatures rose slightly to provide ideal conditions for runners and support crew alike.
The race itself was fantastically well organised on a flat and fast course which snaked it’s way round the beautiful city of Valencia. Crowds lined the streets in the later stages narrowing as the finish line came into sight to cheer the runners into the spectacular finish at the City’s famous Museum of Arts.
First home for the Hawks was Lee Strachan in a new PB of 2:41:01 closely chased home by Billy Gibson in 2:41:24. There were other great runs by Gareth Irons (2:53:11), Kenny Liddell (2:56:59) and ray Tully (3:28:09).
Special mention to Bruce Scott who made a guest appearance for the weekend and signalled his return to competitive action with a 10k run of 35:20. Obviously inspired by his room mate the previous evening and new world record holder Joshua Cheptegai!!
As club has returned to the Ronnie McIntosh Stadium in Caird Park for training our displacement page has been removed and updated with information regarding new facility along with a training grid of training available for members. Page can be found here: http://www.dundeehawks.co.uk/trainingatrpc/
It was wonderful to see a record field of 61 competitors turn out for Saturday’s Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race despite the rather dreich conditions on the hill. The race, which climbs 670m in a little over 7km to finish at the summit of the ‘Munro’ Glas Tulaichean, was won by last year’s Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medal winner Robbie Simpson in a rapid time of 34:15. The first female home was Virginie Barrand of Metro Aberdeen in 46:17. Well done both! Congratulations also to Billy Gibson & Catherine Matthews who each took 1st V40 place for a Hawks veteran double. Several other Hawks competed, with Ciaron Collins (bagging his first ever Munro in style), Munro Stewart, Romain Borgeal, Philip Levack, Phil Forte, Dominika Kwasna & Alan Kennedy all putting in great performances. Full results via the link below.
There was lots of positive feedback from all participants, so huge thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, including Dave & Lyn Hanlon, Beth & Angie Collins, Alan Vigrow, Catherine & Grace Matthews & Charlie Love. Roll on next year!
