East District XC League, Alloa

The Hawks descended on Alloa en mass on Saturday with no less than 49 travelling for the second East District League meeting of the season…..41 juniors (again many competing for the first time) and 8 seniors. Brilliant turnout!

It was a damp day when we arrived. The brand new Hawks gazebo was put up and we all went out to walk what we found to be an extremely muddy course….lots of fun then!

There were lots of fantastic performances. In the u11girls (1.6km) Lesley Rogers had a good run to improve on her Stirling performance finishing a few places higher in 34th (8 mins 9 secs). The tone of the day was plain to see as a number of the runners finished in socks…carrying shoes they had lost in the mud..ooops. Lesley managed to keep hers on her feet though!

First Hawk home for the u11 boys once again was Scott Vigrow. The boys covered the same course as the girls with Scott finishing 30th in a field of 63 in a time of 7:09.

The Hawks had 10 girls competing in the u13 (2.7km) race. Top performer here was Iona Vannet. Iona was competing in the East League for the first time and managed a credible 40th out of 81 starters clocking 13:41.

By the time the u13 boys began the sun had appeared. First home for the boys was Blair Scott who had his best run yet to finish a fantastic 9th in a quality field of 70 runners. Blair finished in a time of 11:24.

In the u15/u17 girls race over 3.7km Katie Anderson put in a strong performance to finish 4th u17 (16:36). In the same race Maddie Owen was first home for the u15s in 17:59.

The u15 boys race was interesting….many of the boys looking like they had been rolling in the mud by the time they were finished. Jack Anderson was looking strong out on the course securing his position as first Hawk finishing 19th (15:35) out of 45 competitors.

Jame Donald once again put in a solid performance for the u17 men. James covered the 5.6km course in a time of 22:49 finishing 10th overall. Together with his teammates Andrew Merry and Matthew Tonner the boys managed to secure 4th team.

For the senior women Catriona Reynolds was 59th overall (21st vet) in 30:42. Billy Gibson ran for the senior men over a tough 8.2km course finishing 48th overall (35:18). He was followed home by Bruce Scott who was first Hawks vet (58th overall and 10th vet) clocking 35:58. The vets team as a whole put in a strong performance with the first 3 home counting towards the team placing. Bruce together with Ian Anderson (63rd overall, 13th vet) and Matt Strachan (74th overall, 20th vet) finished 3rd team.

It was a fun day out with some good results and lots of team spirit on a brilliant and tough course. Well done everyone…full Hawks results will be posted to the results page shortly.
